The CCDL Executive Board feels that in light of comments made in this article that was published on 8/01/2018, candidate for Attorney General Sue Hatfield has shown what must be considered as wavering support for the 2nd Amendment. Because of that, our endorsement of Sue Hatfield must be withdrawn. While we still feel she would make a far better Attorney General than any of the other candidates in the race, we simply cannot endorse the recent comments she’s made.
While CCDL does the best job that it can with regards to vetting candidates, ultimately it is up to each of them to defend the 2nd Amendment in the face of political pressure from other candidates, or from media inquiries. If any candidate or legislator is uncertain how an issue might impact the lawful gun owners of Connecticut, they should feel free to contact us.

It’s good to know, thank you. ANYONE that publicly speaks against the 2nd Amendment and the rights of the American Citizens should not be elected to office as they simply don’t have the public’s well being in mind. Like Representative Tong, anyone endorsing gun control in this state needs to NOT be elected to office. Stripping your individual rights for arbitrary reasons is what will make this state even worse and will continue to bias freedom loving individuals. Make Connecticut great again, and only endorse those with our best interests at heart. Connecticut doesn’t need anymore democrats or turncoat torrie republicans… Vote red, but vote wisely
CCDL should ask prospective candidates 1 question: What regulations relating to guns do you support (permits, background chks, etc)?
If they say anything other than “none” then CCDL should not toss an approval stamp on them.
Sure, it may mean that CCDL endorses a very limited # of candidates but its better to endorse only those that actually understand our RKBA than those, like Ms. Hatfield, that have their heads up where the sun don’t shine.
