Press Release – Rally For Our Rights

04/10/18
For Immediate Release:

The Connecticut Citizens Defense League (the state’s largest grass-roots gun rights group) announces the ‘Rally for Our Rights’ event at the State Capitol in Hartford. The event will take place on April 14th starting at 11:00am and will finish at 1:00pm. The event will include an opening ceremony, guest speakers and a patriotic atmosphere.

CCDL President Scott Wilson:
“We have seen the recent push to raise the age limit for owning firearms, and even more boldly, hearing them calling for a repeal of the 2nd Amendment. We have witnessed the aftermath of what continually occurs in gun free zones. The only solution being offered by most policy makers is to eradicate constitutionally protected rights our nation was founded on. We have watched as law-abiding individuals have become vilified simply because they wish to have the means for self-protection. This is why we are rallying. Those who support our rights will not simply sit back and let those very rights be trampled on.”

“CCDL asks that all who believe in the right to keep and bear arms to Rally for our Rights on April 14th in Hartford at our family friendly event.”
———————————————————————————————————————
About the CCDL: The Connecticut Citizens Defense League was formed in 2009 by a small group of concerned citizens as a non-partisan organization to advocate second amendment rights in the state of Connecticut. Since their founding, the group has grown to over 30.000 members across the state.

Thanks to this large supportive base across the state the CCDL has become a fixture of the capitol, and well recognized by committees that see firearms related bills.

As the go-to organization in the state they are consulted regularly by lawmakers who have questions and concerns about pending legislation or existing laws. For more information on the CCDL please visit http://www.ccdl.us/

It’s Time To Rally!

Are you ready for a 2A Rally?
It’s time to remind the gun-grabbers that we’re still here, and we still VOTE.

If you have been outraged by anti-gun propaganda rallies and blatant calls to repeal the 2nd Amendment, then this rally is your chance to speak out against those who would take your rights.
Let’s swarm the Capitol grounds, and show this state that we will not give up our rights quietly.

DATE: Saturday, April 14, 2018
TIME: 11am until 1pm (or later)
PLACE: Connecticut State Capitol, 210 Capitol Ave, Hartford

It will once again be at the State Capitol, north side facing Bushnell Park. All lawful forms of carry are permitted on the Capitol grounds, but remember Bushnell Park is a so-called “Gun Free Zone“.

Counter-Protest The Antigun Rally in Newtown!

According to a letter recently published in The Newtown Bee, the antigun crowd is planning another protest for Monday, January 18th, in front of the headquarters for the National Shooting Sports Foundation. In part it appears they are protesting the NSSF’s Project ChildSafe. For the life of me I can’t figure out why people who claim they aren’t actually anti-gun but just pro gun safety would oppose an actual, effective gun safety program is beyond me.
I would think if they really wanted to stop the violence and promote gun safety they should protest in front of a drug gang’s headquarters or in a high crime neighborhood. I can only guess it’s because we’re safe and law-abiding gun owners and the NSSF is located in a nice suburban neighborhood, and drug dealers are scary  criminals and hang out in the bad part of the big city?

Whatever their reasons, they say they are speaking for all of us. We need you to show up and show them that’s not the case. Connecticut has a large number of legal gun owners. We’ll be meeting in front of the NSSF headquarters at 3:30pm, located right off rt 25 at 11 Mile Hill Rd, Newtown. Parking is tough, but you can park behind the Reed School, by the soccer and baseball fields on Old Farm Rd (see map below). DO NOT PARK on Tinkerfield Rd. Any crossing of Mile Hill Rd. is prohibited, except up by Reed School where you park.
Remember you are technically parking on school grounds.

  • Bring Pro2A signs.
  • Bring American flags.
  • Bring a sign thanking the NSSF for what they do.
  • BE RESPECTFUL AND POLITE! Don’t let someone goad you into an argument or fight. Remember the media will be there.

What: Counter-protest in support of the NSSF
When: Monday, January 18, 2016 at 3:30pm
Where: NSSF Headquarters, 11 Mile Hill Rd, Newtown, CT 06470

Rally Live Streaming

Of course we really hope you are here in Hartford right now for the big rally, but for those who just can’t make it, we are going to attempt to broadcast it live right here. We’ve never tried this before, so I apologize in advance if it doesn’t work. It was kind of a last minute idea, and by the time you read this, we’ll already be at the rally. If it works, you should be able to watch the rally below. If it doesn’t work, we’ll still have it all up on our YouTube channel as soon as possible. And since you couldn’t make it, you can still help out by making a donation to our Litigation Fund, which goes toward fighting this unconstitutional and ineffective law in federal court.

Connecticut Chooses Liberty

As I hope everyone by now knows, we’re having a rally at the State Capitol this Saturday, April 5th, and it’s shaping up to be huge. (you ARE going, right?)
Well, the people who support restricting your Constitutional rights know about it too, and they’re scared.

They’re scared because they underestimated the backlash to Public Act 13-3, which turned tens of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Connecticut voters into potential criminals overnight.

They’re scared because they thought we would give up our rights quietly, and then forget all about it. Instead, a year later we’re louder and larger and more organized than ever.

They’re scared because support for their anti-gun agenda is at an all-time low, both nationally and here in Connecticut.

They’re scared because they see what’s happening to legislators who voted against our rights. Many once popular politicians who aspired to higher office have seen their support dry up. Others, who have won by small margins in the past are simply retiring, apparently figuring it’s better to quit then get voted out.

They’re scared because despite their lies and flawed, biased polls, they are realizing that dancing in the blood of children is no longer effective in advancing their agenda.

They’re scared because even other historically anti-gun states like Illinois are rolling back gun control laws.

They’re scared of YOU.

And just like a wild animal that doesn’t understand reason and facts, when they are scared they lash out and attack. It doesn’t matter if what they are saying is untrue. It doesn’t matter if what they want actually makes them less safe. Like an animal, all that matters is what they feel. They attack what they fear most. YOU.

As part of those attacks, they’ve been spreading vicious lies. They claim to be on the right side of history. They say you’re a bully for exercising your 1st and 2nd Amendment rights. They say you’re part of the lunatic fringe. They even have the nerve to compare you to the KKK!

But that isn’t good enough. They’re trying to amplify their weak voice with the use of social media. They’ve set up a “Thunderclap” to try to spread their message of hate.
What the heck is a Thunderclap?

If a tweet falls in the forest…
Social media is an easy way to say something, but it’s a difficult way to be heard. Thunderclap is the first-ever crowdspeaking platform that helps people be heard by saying something together. It allows a single message to be mass-shared, flash mob-style, so it rises above the noise of your social networks. By boosting the signal at the same time, Thunderclap helps a single person create action and change like never before.

You don’t need a huge following for a successful Thunderclap.
A user with 200 Facebook friends could amplify her message better than someone with 3,000 friends. It all depends on your cause’s voice and shareability—and how much your friends are engaged. Thunderclap has already reached millions of people. Check out some of the successful projects on our homepage!

The tipping point
The beauty of Thunderclap is that it sets the goalposts: one message, one number, one date. It’s a common threshold you and your supporters work toward together. It’s a tangible way to measure awareness.

You can see their Thunderclap here.

Now, thanks to our friends at CT Carry, there is a competing Thunderclap you can use to counteract the antis. Please, if you have a Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr account sign up for the Connecticut Chooses Liberty Thunderclap.

Signing up with your various accounts only takes seconds, and it’s vital that we show that we the people are actually the ones on the right side of this issue.

The second thing they are doing is this: Starting at 9:30am tomorrow (Friday, April 4th, 2014) they are going to start calling your state legislators and urge them to support restricting your rights.
We need to counteract that too. So tomorrow morning at 9:15am, I want you to settle down with your phone and start calling yourselves. Tell your legislators the new laws do NOTHING take guns away from criminals or to make people safer; all they do is restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens like yourself. Remind them that you are a voter, and this election you intend to vote 2A. After you get off the phone, I want you to follow-up with emails. After you email, we want you to facebook and tweet them. We want you to be respectful, reasonable, and factual, but we want you to speak up! If you let the other side win at this, they are going to think they have support to restrict you rights further and further until you have none. They want to use your home state as an example to disarm gun owners nationwide. We must not let that happen.

Contacting your legislator is easy. First go to this link and enter your address. It will then show your state and federal legislators. The (web) link will take you to their website, where you will find their phone number, email address, and facebook/twitter accounts if they have them. The (contact) link will take you directly to their email.

Remember, Friday, April 4, 2014 starting at 9:15am we need you to start calling, emailing, tweeting, and facebooking that you are pro 2nd Amendment and a voter. And of course we’ll see you Saturday at the Capitol Building in Hartford.
Carry On!

Groton, CT- March 31st, 2014

2A Rally – April 5th

So, the rally we’ve mentioned before is now only a month away. Time to kick things into high gear!

On April 5, 2014, we’ll be gathering on the North side of the State Capitol Building at high noon to mark the first anniversary of the the signing of one of the most unconstitutional gun laws in the nation. Our keynote speaker will be noted gun rights activist and writer David Codrea. David has been featured in Guns and Ammo, Handguns, and Guns Magazine, where he writes the monthly “Rights Watch” column. He is also the National Gun Rights Examiner for Examiner.com, and writes the blog “The War on Guns”. He and Mike Vanderboegh (who spoke at our rally last year) were the ones that originally broke the story of Eric Holder’s Fast and Furious scandal.

We’ll have other speakers yet to be announced, as well as some candidates who we are hoping will oust the gun grabbers in November with your help.

When: April 5, 2014 from noon until 3pm
Where: Capitol Building, 210 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut 06106

You may download a pdf of the flyer to print out and hang in your favorite gun store or club here.

Critical information regarding firearms and lawful carry at the Capitol
While the carrying of firearms is permitted on the Capitol grounds, firearms that are now defined as assault weapons under Public Act 13-3 are prohibited. To avoid confusion and unnecessary hassles, we highly recommend carrying handguns openly or concealed (if you are properly permitted – and make sure you have 10 or less rounds in the magazine) in lieu of long arms. Also, firearms are strictly prohibited in Bushnell Park, which is right next to the rally. Keep this in mind as you are walking to and from where you parked. The Capitol police have been extremely friendly at our past rallies and have never hassled us for any reason. Lets try to keep it that way.

Signs
What’s a rally without signs? Be creative! Keep in mind this is a family friendly rally. There will be many children there, because this affects them too. So please consider not using profanity on any signs. We’re with you on the anger and frustration we all feel, but please keep it clean.

Parking
Parking close to the Capitol can be tough. If you can, carpool. Even better get everyone in your gun club to chip in and rent a van or bus. Chris Fields at King33 Training in Southington has offered his parking lot as a consolidation point for people who wish to meet up and carpool in together. This would greatly help with any potential parking issues. Thank you Chris Fields!!!

Speakers still to be determined, but of course, the Rally will be led by our tireless leader, Scott Wilson! When is the Rally you may ask? April 4th, 2013 sparked a turn in the gun control fight here in CT, so how does April 5th, 2014 sound? That’s right, Saturday, April 5th 2014, let us swarm the Capitol grounds, and show this state that we are a FORCE to be reckoned with. More info regarding the Rally will be coming later, as final details get hammered out.

Almost Rally Time!

CCDL’s Rally For Your Rights is tomorrow. Are you excited? Are you attending? Are you getting everyone you know to attend?

I’m going to try and hit on some of the questions we’ve been getting. We’ve covered most of them here before, but this will put them all in one place.

What if it rains? Is there a rain-date?
No, there is no rain date. The rally will go on rain or shine. Some of our speakers like John Lott are flying in for the rally. They won’t be able to come back another time. Also our permit to use the Capitol grounds does not allow for a rain date. If we reschedule we have to go through the entire permit process all over again. The current weather report shows showers in the morning, ending around 9-10am. The rest of the day will be cloudy, with a high temperature around 60F.

Will there be buses running from Cabela’s again?
No, there are no buses from Cabela’s like there was for Lobby Day. Logistically it just doesn’t work for this type of event. Lobby day was an ongoing all day thing. People coming in, seeing their legislators and leaving.
The rally on the other hand has a fixed start and stop time (12-3pm), and the vast majority of people will stay for the entire thing. If we have 5,000 people at the rally (and I hope there are far more then that) you would need 100 buses all loading up at Cabela’s at the same time, all dropping off at the Capitol at the same time, and all picking people back up at the same time.
If you only had say 10 buses running (which would still cost a fortune, for Lobby Day there were 4 buses) they would have to start running full loads at 7am to get everyone there by noon, and the last people to leave the rally wouldn’t get back to Cabela’s until after 8pm.
There ARE some buses that have been privately chartered by gun clubs or individual members. If you belong to a club, check to see if they have a bus, and I know there is one leaving the Torrington area that I think still has some open seats. There is also some discussion on the Facebook Event Page about carpools.

If there are no buses, where can we park?
First, I strongly suggest carpooling. See above about buses. There is very limited parking at the Capitol itself, and half of that will be closed due to our rally. Expect the other half to be already filled due to an earlier event taking place inside. There is on street metered parking, and plenty of public lots and parking garages around the area. See this post for a map of most of them.

Can I carry a gun at the rally? Can I open carry?
CCDL supports ALL lawful means of carrying a gun. It is legal to carry a firearm on the grounds of the Capitol building. Open carry is legal in CT. CCDL takes no position on how one should carry other then carry legally.
If you have a permit and are comfortable with open carry, by all means do. Plenty of others will be as well. There are some caveats though. Most important, it is illegal to carry a gun in Bushnell Park, which is right next to the Capitol. Do not cut through the park to get to the Capitol if you are carrying a gun. You also can not carry inside the Capitol building itself (not that you should have any need to go in there). Remember what was legal to carry in public last month may not be legal this month because of the newly redefined Assault Weapon Ban. Any gun that falls under the ban (AR-15 style, AK types, pistols with over 10 rounds, etc) is no longer allowed to be carried in public. If you aren’t sure, don’t bring it. Handguns openly carried should be in some type of retention holster and remain holstered at all times. Long arms should be unloaded and trigger locked or zip-tied with the action open and kept pointed down. Capitol police will be on hand, and will act on anything illegal or unsafe.

Will there be shirts, stickers, merchandise, food, raffle tickets or anything else for sale there?
As per Capitol rules, there is nothing allowed to be sold on the Capitol grounds. CCDL does have permission to collect donations for the litigation fund. That’s it. Feel free to bring your own (non-alcoholic) drinks or food, but please take your trash with you when you leave. We want to leave the place cleaner then we found it.

Are there any security concerns because of recent terrorist events?
Yes. Expect Capitol security to be stronger then usual. Suspicious looking bags may be checked by police. Please, use common sense and everything will be fine. Don’t argue with police, or any counter-protesters that might show up. We could have a nice successful 3hr rally with 20,000 people, and if one person gets arrested or in a shouting match with someone, THAT’S what’s going to be all over the news. Don’t be that person.
