  • Updates on actions with the Middletown pistol permit process

  • CCDL educational legislative shoot

Avoid the wait and shipping fees! The full selection of CCDL merchandise is always for sale at our meetings, including many items not sold on our website.

Legislative Session

Legislative Coordinator Ray Bevis will report on “how we did” at the upcoming meeting. This is a tremendous opportunity for our members to hear about how we did this year in Hartford. Ray will include some of the key highlights of the session, and compare our efforts from a few years ago to this year. Every year that CCDL is around, we grow, we learn and we mature as an organization to better serve our faithful members.

Meet Candidate for State-Wide Office Peter Lumaj

2018 candidates for state-wide office are emerging. One such candidate is Peter Lumaj. While CCDL has not endorsed any candidates for any race in 2018, we will point out that Peter has been endorsed by CCDL in the past. Peter is a staunch supporter of our 2nd Amendment rights, and if you come and listen you will see exactly why.

CCDL Files FOIA Requests With Two Cities

In an effort to address the many concerns of pistol permit applicants in several municipalities in Connecticut, CCDL has requested data from two cities: Waterbury and Middletown. Numerous applicants have reportedly been delayed far beyond the statutorily required 8-week period to issue or deny pistol permits. Once the data is reviewed, and if systemic problems are indicated with one or both cities, we will more than likely consider several courses of action to correct these issues.

CCDL Readies Amicus Filing (Soto v Bushmaster)

CCDL has applied to the CT State Supreme court to submit an Amicus Curiae Brief (Friend of the Court Brief) in support of Bushmaster Firearms International LLC. The case known as ‘Soto v Bushmaster’ has been ongoing for some time, and CCDL will withhold any further statements on the case until the court accepts our petition for the brief to be filed. The application is a matter of public record on file with the State Supreme Court as of May 30, 2017. You may view a copy of the application here: Application-of-CCDL-for-permission-to-appear-as-amicus-curiae.pdf

Meeting Agenda

  • The decision in the Federal Court Appeal that CCDL and other litigants are suing over (Shew v Malloy) should be here soon. We are days away from the typical time frame that an appellate court takes to reach a decision. We have a very special meeting for Tuesday, which will include a visit from Chris Conte. Chris is litigation counsel for NRA-ILA and has done a lot to help coordinate legal legwork associated with this case. Chris will talk about the lawsuit’s future and other aspects of Connecticut gun rights.
Connecticut Local Counsel Martha Dean will be in attendance and so will Tom King, the President of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association. NY is fighting the SAFE Act law which is similar to the law that we are fighting here in CT (PA 13-3/13-220).
  • A full post-legislative breakdown will be presented by CCDL Legislative Coordinator Ray Bevis. Ray will be providing statistics about membership involvement and effectiveness at the meeting. He has worked very hard this session along with Chris Lemos to bring Legislative information to our members in real-time.
  • Jonathan Hardy will talk about recent events with the BFPE and permit issues.
  • We will be talking about the upcoming CCDL Family Picnic as well as the Poker Run.
The CCDL Family Picnic date has been set for 9/19/2015 at Boothe Memorial Park in Stratford. A flyer for the event should be available soon.
The CCDL Poker Run is set for 9/26/2015. All proceeds go to support the lawsuit against the unconstitutional gun law (PA 13-3/13-220) that passed in 2013.
    Mark your calendars!
  • Christian Ragosta. the NRA Grass Roots will be in the house to answer questions.

Poker Run Recap

Thanks to everyone who came out for CCDL’s First Annual Poker Run. The turnout was outstanding! I’ve heard it was one of the larger poker runs anyone has ever seen in CT, which is really amazing considering it’s our first and the weather was questionable. All the profits will go toward fighting CT’s antigun laws, so thank you all very much!

Thanks to all the sponsors, the stops along the way, and most of all the 40-50 volunteers who helped make it all happen. For those who couldn’t make it, we have pictures and video of what you missed.

First, here’s the link to our photo gallery and slide show from the event: Photo Gallery – Poker Run 2013

Then we have a short video we’ve put together:

Last, I’d like to point you toward some other great videos of the event others have posted. You can check them out by clicking here.
