An Open Letter To Senator Murphy

Greetings Senator Murphy,

Your recent call for increased infringements on the rights of Americans (more gun control) coupled with decreased vetting of foreign entities has now reached ‘the Lunatic Fringe’.

Our organization (Connecticut Citizens Defense League) has no opinion on immigration as a sole subject, but when you conjoin calls for gun control along with mass immigration of foreigners, it is obvious what you are attempting to do.

You are now prioritizing non-citizens over legitimate citizens of the United States by calling for gun control to accommodate those non-citizens. The purpose of your idea is simply to push fanatical gun restrictions any way that you can. This reasoning is simply unacceptable to most Americans.

Let’s face it Senator Murphy, the bottom line is that you very simply do not trust your fellow Americans with firearms. The fact that you cling to this position is clearly evidenced by your ceaseless calls for gun control. What is particularly troubling is the fact that you are doing so while admitting that some immigrants from certain regions of the world may be so dangerous that we need to ban legal firearms to reduce the ‘risks’ of these people being here. It is sheer lunacy that you would risk the lives of your fellow citizens in such a manner if given the opportunity.

Your way would make all of us less safe if you eliminate the means for us to protect our lives and our families. Therefore, you and your beliefs are more dangerous to this nation than any immigrant from anywhere in the world ever could be.

Press Release – Lawmakers Demand Stores Ban Guns

01/29/2015
for Immediate Release:

(Groton, CT) The Connecticut Citizens Defense League addresses letter from members of Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation sent to the Connecticut Food Association.

Comments from CCDL President Scott Wilson:
“Senators Blumenthal, Murphy and representative Esty are over-stepping their bounds with regards to their authority. Instead of concerning themselves with federal issues, they are using the Federal Government letterhead to harass a state level association (Connecticut Food Association). This is a bully tactic that is being deployed by legislators that in reality have little to say about Connecticut state laws. What the three of these people are doing has absolutely zero to do with state law anyway. Esty, Blumenthal and Murphy are actually trying to circumvent existing state law by forcing retailers into enacting a policy that dictates the manner in which law-abiding citizens can carry firearms.”
“As a 2nd Amendment rights organization, we wish to remind our two senators and representative that there are nearly 250,000 legal carriers of firearms in Connecticut. Their attempt to arm twist the Connecticut Food Association into imposing a policy on lawful gun owners is beyond their job description, and does nothing to enhance public safety. They should concentrate on fixing Washington, because it needs it”.

Press Release – San Bernardino Shooting

12/02/2015
For Immediate Release:
The Connecticut Citizens Defense League (The state’s largest grass-roots gun rights group) is speaking out against calls for more gun control made by elected officials from Connecticut.
Comment from CCDL President Scott Wilson:
“Once again we have Governor Malloy spouting off for more gun control before any facts are out about who may have committed the atrocity in San Bernardino and why they committed it. Once again we also have Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty, Senator Chris Murphy and Senator Richard Blumenthal parroting calls for more gun control out of their playbook. It is obvious that in their minds, law-abiding citizens of the United States would be better off walking around completely defenseless with no means to protect themselves”.
Wilson Added:
“While CCDL typically tries to refrain from commenting in the early stages of mass murders involving firearms, it is becoming increasingly harder to do so given the fact that elected officials run to the microphone while these events are still in progress. A sane person would be foolish to listen to any of these people, given that their ultimate goal is to eradicate our 2nd Amendment, and to disarm the population of this country. Therefore, it is the duty of this organization to counter outrageous statements made to today from these officials”.
Wilson Concluded with a reference to last weeks press release:
“Based on comments today by President Obama about possible terrorists, CCDL refers to a press release from last week for details”:

The Dangerous Tyranny Act of 2015

11/24/2015
For Immediate Release:

The Connecticut Citizens Defense League (The state’s largest grass-roots gun rights group) is speaking out in opposition to recent statements made by Governor Malloy, and Senators Murphy and Blumenthal regarding the deceptively named “Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2015”.

Comment from CCDL President Scott Wilson:

“I make no apologies for emphatically stating that all three of them are plainly and simply advocating for tyranny in the truest sense of the word. Everything that they are calling for is completely antithetical our rights as Americans. These proposals not only violate our 2nd Amendment rights, but our 14th Amendment rights as well. Their rhetoric about blanket gun control should concern every American regardless of their views on guns. They are actually advocating for the elimination of due process for citizens”.

Key Points about the Watch List:

1) For the purposes of this proposed legislation, a “terrorist” is anyone whose name appears on the FBI’s terror watch list. This is not a list of known terrorists. As the name implies, it is just a list of people the FBI is watching for information about terrorism. A person might be watched because a relative, acquaintance or coworker is suspected of terroristic actions. They themselves may be law-abiding citizens.

2) Anyone can mistakenly and unknowingly end up on the terror watch list. You do not have to commit any crime to be added to the list Infants, US senators, Nelson Mandela, and the entire Ford Motor Company have all been mistakenly added to the watch list.

3) There is no deliberate means to remove yourself from the list should you mistakenly end up on it.

4) The criteria to end up on the terror list are unclear and vague.

5) We do not have a clue who is adding names to this list. Adding someone to the list is purely a bureaucratic decision with no accountability, and no opportunity for an individual to refute being added to the list. If Malloy, Murphy and Blumenthal have their way, citizens who have been charged with no crime will lose their Constitutional rights with NO due process.

6) Gun sales to individuals who are on the watch list are already reported to and approved by the federal government. They decline the sales for actual criminals.

Wilson concluded:

“Either we have rights as individuals, or we do not. Lawmakers continue to push down the road of gun control under the guise of concerns for safety, while many citizens in European countries are hiding behind locked doors wishing they had some means of protection with little help from police”.

“If there are actual terrorists with plots or crimes being committed, the Federal Government and police already have the authority to act accordingly, instead of utilizing some list and Gestapo-style tactics against large swaths of the population”.

Senator Chris Murphy Town Hall Meetings

Senator Chris Murphy is continuing his tour of the state, holding town hall meetings in each of the 5 Congressional districts. His second meeting was last night in Hamden (3rd district). According to CCDL members in attendance, only about 60 people showed up, and only 8 were allowed to speak. This was the same night as U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty’s town hall meeting in Waterbury, so that might have hurt attendance. Still, we need to turn out hundreds of progun folks to the rest of his meetings and let him know how we feel about gun control.

Here is his schedule for the rest of the districts:

Sunday, February 24th from 12pm to 1:30pm

1st Congressional District

Saturday, March 9th from 12pm to 1:30pm

Chris Murphy Town Hall – 2/20/2013

Senator Chris Murphy will host a town hall meeting tonight, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Hamden Middle School Auditorium, 2623 Dixwell Ave, Hamden.

This is to be the first of 5 town hall meetings for Murphy; one in each congressional district. Gun control is on the agenda.

Murphy will be accepting questions via Twitter prior to tonight’s meeting. To submit questions, tweet to @ChrisMurphyCT using the hashtag #AskMurphy

UPDATE: A comment from a CCDL member who attended the meeting:

We attended his HAMDEN town meeting last night. Turnout of 60, only about 8 were allowed to speak. Nothing new to report, says what the crowd wants to hear. Shocked to see NO media there. Don’t worry, folks, he says any changes will only affect new purchases, so, you know, relax. He shot down a few highly credentials citizens who spoke, and when they tried to reply he boomed “THIS IS NOT A DEBATE”
