Action Alert

We NEED EVERYONE to contact your State Representative and State Senator. The anti-gun movement is out in full force, and their paid lobbyists are working very hard to get these bills called on the house floor.

We need every second amendment supporter to call and ask to speak with their State Rep. and State Senator. Be polite and professional. Leave a message and ask that they call you back.

Find your State Representative and State Senator and then select their name to find their contact information.

Legislators NEED to hear from us. They need to know how their constituents want them to vote, and need to hear your voice. This is an election year, your legislators work for you! Everyone needs to take action to preserve your freedom here in Connecticut.

Ask the legislators to:

Vote NO on H.B. 5540 AN ACT CONCERNING GHOST GUNS

Vote NO on H.B. 5542 AN ACT CONCERNING BUMP STOCKS AND OTHER MEANS OF ENHANCING THE RATE OF FIRE OF A FIREARM

Vote YES on H.B. 5539 AN ACT CONCERNING FIREARMS IN STATE PARKS

A few weeks ago, the Judiciary Committee voted these bills out of the committee and are closer to being called on the House floor. To see how the committee members voted on these bills follow the links:

H.B. 5540 AN ACT CONCERNING GHOST GUNS

H.B. 5542 AN ACT CONCERNING BUMP STOCKS AND OTHER MEANS OF ENHANCING THE RATE OF FIRE OF A FIREARM

If you have any questions about these bills, feel free to email CCDL’s Legislative Coordinator, Ray Bevis legislative@ccdl.us

H.B. 5538 AN ACT CONCERNING A NONEXPIRING AMMUNITION PERMIT

Other CCDL members will be there to direct you.

It is also recommended that you email your written testimony in Word or PDF format to JUDtestimony@cga.ct.gov a day or two before the hearing. Many legislators prefer to read your testimony online. Be sure to also send a copy of your written testimony to your State Senator and State Representative.

Testimony should clearly state your name and the bills you are testifying on. The Committee requests that testimony be limited to matters related to the items on the agenda. Speakers will be limited to three minutes of testimony.

If you are unable to attend, but would still like to have your voice heard on these issues, please email your written testimony in Word or PDF format to: JUDtestimony@cga.ct.gov
Be sure to send a copy of your written testimony to your State Senator and State Representative.

If you are able attend but do NOT wish to speak or submit testimony, please come and help fill the seats with Second Amendment supporters. This hearing will likely last many hours, please consider coming even if only for a few hours.

Read our Public Testimony Tip Sheet for help composing your written or in-person testimony.

Judiciary Votes To Raise More Gun Bills

Today the Connecticut Judiciary Committee met and voted to raise two more gun related bill concepts this legislative session, An Act Concerning Lawfully Carrying Firearms in State Parks and An Act Concerning Lifetime Ammunition Permits.
We do not have the bill numbers or language at this time. The Judiciary Committee just voted to raise the bill concepts and will hold a public hearing soon (date to be determined).

You can see the full agenda of today’s meeting here: https://www.cga.ct.gov/2018/JUDdata/ca/2018ca-00221-R001100JUD-ca.htm

Be sure that you are receiving CCDL’s member emails which include our action alerts. Normally we send out 1-2 emails a month, so if you haven’t seen an email from us in a while, make sure you check your spam folder and white-list us. We usually only get a few days advance notice on public hearings, so it’s important you find out about them as soon as possible.

Judiciary Meeting Today To Propose Anti-Gun Bills

Today the Connecticut Judiciary Committee will be meeting to vote on what bill concepts to raise this legislative session. The meeting will take place immediately following a public hearing on unrelated matters.

On the Judiciary’s agenda for today are three gun related bill concepts;

  • An Act Concerning Bump Stocks

  • An Act Concerning Ghost Guns

  • An Act Concerning Open Carry

We do not have the bill numbers or language at this time. They’re just voting to raise the bill concepts for now. We won’t get the bill information until the committee actually votes to raise the concept and files it.

You can watch the hearing live starting at 10AM at:

Today’s meeting agenda can be found at:
https://www.cga.ct.gov/2018/juddata/ca/2018CA-00216-R001000JUD-CA.htm

Please note that because of the unpredictable length of a public hearing, we are unable to give an actual start time for the Judiciary Meeting.

Also, the hearing video is hosted on YouTube. If access to that happens to be blocked on your network, you can also try this link:

Repost – Blog Updates By Email

Today is the start of the 2018 State Legislative Session.

We already know there will be proposals to ban “bump stocks” (along with anything that might make a gun cycle faster than stock), making or assembling your own gun from parts, and another attempt at $300 permit fees.

Like we’ve done in the past, I’m going to repeat a few old blog posts for the new members and also as a refresher for the older members. First up is how to subscribe to these blog updates by email.

CCDL usually sends out 1-2 emails a month to keep our members updated on what’s going on with the organization and our gun rights. With the political climate the way it is, things sometimes happen far too fast to wait for a monthly email. A good way to stay up to date with everything happening is to subscribe to this blog. Just look down the right side of the blog home page (http://ccdl.us/blog/) and you will see a place to enter your email address. It looks like this:

Simply enter your email address and press the subscribe button.
You will then get a confirmation email from “CCDL Blog”. Open that email and press the Confirm Follow button. Now you will get an email when there is a new post here. Don’t worry, if you ever change your mind, every email has a link to unsubscribe.

One last thing, if you are active on Facebook, besides the Official CCDL page, there is also a CCDL discussion group. It’s a good place to interact with fellow CCDL members.
