CCDL Press Release On Mark Boughton’s Resignation From MAIG

Groton, CT
CCDL President Scott Wilson Speaks out on gubernatorial candidate Mark Boughton and Michael Bloomberg’s anti-human rights organization ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’:

“We are pleased that Mark Boughton has ended his affiliation with Michael Bloomberg’s organization, although I am not sure that the timing of his departure will help his campaign at this point, or even if his leaving MAIG was intended for that purpose”.

“CCDL certainly does appreciate Mayor Boughton’s stating his recent revelations about the organization. ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ is not concerned with taking guns out of the hands of criminals. It has always been about creating as many difficulties and obstructions as possible to disarm law abiding citizens.”

“Americans have the right to protect themselves and their families, and Mr. Bloomberg continually dismisses that notion. That fact that former Mayor Bloomberg makes sure that he has personal bodyguards further underscores his hypocrisy”.

About the CCDL: The Connecticut Citizens Defense League was formed in February 2009 by a small group of concerned citizens as a non-partisan organization to advocate for second amendment rights in the state of Connecticut. Since their founding, the group has grown to more than 13,000 members. Thanks to this large supportive base across the state the CCDL has become a fixture of the capitol, and well recognized by committees that oversee firearms related bills.

CCDL is also actively involved at the state Board of Firearms Permit Examiners. As the go-to organization in the state they are consulted with regularly by lawmakers who have questions and concerns about pending legislation or existing laws. For more information regarding CCDL, please visit

  1. Then I see Mayor Mark is pulling a Massachusetts style flip-flop. Yesterday I was against guns, but today I am for them, until I need to be against them tomorrow. Or like one of our congressional candidates who was quoted as saying that what he said did not reflect what he believed.

There is still that matter of Mayor Boughton tweeting about the “nice job” that Governor Cuomo did in passing a draconian citizen control law. Has he addressed this?

  2. While it is always good to see MAIG dwindle in force, I cannot forget what happened in the State of CT on April 4, 2013. Mayor Boughton was not the only Republican who turned against the rights afforded to the residents of CT via two Constitutions. Mayor Boughton and ANY Republican who used the deaths of innocent little children to advance an unconstitutional LIberal Agenda of Gun Control will never, ever be considered for my vote. In the case of the violation of the Constitutions they swore to uphold, it makes them no longer eligible to serve the citizens of CT either in Hartford or Washington DC.

Unfortunately my decision of not considering the above politicians for my vote, I will not be voting for a very qualified Republican Representative in my town.

  3. We must tell this man that he is no longer welcome in this gubernatorial race. We have had enough of these politicians speaking out of both sides of their mouth. Get out of the race Mr. Boughton!

  4. Boughton isn’t stupid or ignorant of MAIG. He read the writing on the wall and realized he would never get the republican nomination while a member of MAIG. No one should fall for this con.

  5. Once one crosses that line, can they go back from such a choice?
Like saying you approve of killing babies … oh, wait~just kidding (2 yrs later)
