CCDL Message to Our Members

We are all saddened and shocked at the slaughter of innocent school children and teachers in Newtown on Friday the 14th. Our heads and hearts are still reeling with sorrow and grief.

Since this incident, there have been calls for various types of gun control ranging from banning “assault weapons”, banning “high capacity magazines”, to banning all guns completely.

While CCDL and all gun owners are certain to face what is likely to be an avalanche of these various gun control measures, it is important that we realize any argument that we give anti-gun forces regarding a compromise only creates the next argument for them. In other words, if we acquiesce to the notion that so called common sense gun control exists, then they will surely always offer more “common sense”.

Does this mean that we will be successful in our efforts to protect us from bans on certain firearms or magazines? The answer is we simply do not know. Regardless of any uncertainty, the position of CCDL is that we stick to our principles that guns or magazines, of themselves do not murder people in cold blood.

These are trying times for gun owners and 2nd Amendment supporters. We have had our rights both challenged and whittled away, one law at a time, for many years. It is even likely that some of you have reevaluated your own personal convictions after this horrific event. We are all human beings and these feelings are natural.

After the shock has worn off, it will be time to regain our footing and realize that we are on the side of what is right. Murder and evil come in many forms and will always be a part of human society. It has been this way, long before guns existed. Evil will still exist even if they somehow confiscate every last weapon.

CCDL is working on an outline to help protect our children that will be put forth to legislators, media and gun control proponents. This may be met with skepticism, or embraced. Either way, we will continue to state our principles and stick by them with hands on activism, that will undoubtedly be needed to preserve our 2nd Amendment rights.
We Will not Surrender our rights!

There is no mistaking that the push has begun at the federal and state level to methodically dismantle the 2nd Amendment of our U.S. Constitution. Please stand with us in preserving our rights. Join us at the Capitol when the time comes.

We as an all volunteer grassroots organization want to thank all our members, for supporting us in every way, from physical help, to ideas presented via email and at meetings, to testifying along side us on gun bills, and especially for the financial contributions donated through our website, PO Box and at our General Meetings. Again we say Thank You!

Carry On!

Press Release – CCDL Expresses sorrow Over December 14 School Shooting

Groton, CT – December 14, 2012 – The Connecticut Citizens Defense League (CCDL) sends out their heartfelt sympathies to the victims, families, and the entire community of Newtown, CT in the wake of today’s school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It is impossible to comprehend the full scope of this tragedy, and the lasting damage to children of such young age. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers throughout this ordeal and beyond.

CCDL President, Scott Wilson, also had this to say: “We, as law abiding gun owners abhor senseless and violent acts that harm our fellow human beings – especially innocent children. There have been, many statements condemning firearms and gun owners as a result of this tragedy. This was an act of deranged behavior from a mentally ill individual, not of decent and law abiding people that own guns and respect life. The members of CCDL weep with our fellow citizens of Connecticut”.

Legislative Testimony Workshop #2

Just in case you were not able to attend our last Free Legislative Testimony Workshop, we will be offering it again Tuesday, December 11th during our monthly general membership meeting. We will have an abbreviated meeting to accommodate the training workshop. This workshop will help you prepare for the upcoming legislative session. This will be our last workshop before the session begins January 9th. You can be certain there will be numerous anti-gun bills introduced this session. We will need hands on activism from ALL our members to help combat an emboldened anti-gun sentiment that is held by certain legislators and bureaucratic appointees within the state government.

Once again this workshop is free of charge and open to all members of the public. We will also be offering some light refreshments. This course is of use to ANYONE who cherishes freedom and liberty; not just gun owners. Read the post about the previous workshop to see what we’ll be covering.

To paraphrase a famous quote; the only thing needed for bad laws to pass is for good people to do nothing.
