MEETING MINUTES: CCDL General Meeting

CALL TO ORDER

General Meeting of Connecticut Citizens Defense League was held on May 8, 2018 at Elks Lodge 44 Maynard Street, Middletown CT. The meeting began at 7:05 PM and was presided over by Scott Wilson, with Cheryl Lemos as secretary. The meeting opened with the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.e.

Membership Coordinator – Kris Witherill

  • Membership report

Legislative Coordinator – Ray Bevis (presented by Scott Wilson)

  • Spent over 30 hours advocating for CCDL at the Capitol last week.
  • Met with numerous legislators regarding Bump Stock and Ghost Gun bills.
    • On May 1st the House called H.B. 5542 AAC Bump Stocks, they debated the bill for over five hours. The bill passed with a 114 to 35 vote. Nine of the CCDL endorsed legislators voted against us. They were; Rep. Carney of the 23rd, Rep. Davis of the 57th, Rep. Labriola of the 131st , Rep. Maclachlan of the 35th , Rep. Ohler of the 64th , Rep. Rebimbas of the 70th, Rep. Siegrist of the 36th , Rep. Sredzinski of the 112th , and Rep. Tweedie of the 13th.
    • With just over 24 hours left in the session, H.B. 5542 AAC Bump Stocks still hasn’t been called in the Senate. H.B. 5540 AAC Ghost Guns, H.B. 5539 AAC Firearms in state parks, H.B. 5538 AAC Non-Expiring Ammunition Permit hasn’t been called in the House or Senate.
  • CCDL will have a table at the GOP Convention on Friday May 11th and Saturday May 12th.

  • Taking pre-orders for polo shirts; available on website soon.
  • Save the date for annual CCDL Poker Run – Saturday, September 15th, 2018 – Route will be starting at Central CT Arms and Ending at Doody’s

Permit Issues Coordinator – Jonathan Hardy

  • Discussed current cases at the Board of Pistol Permit
  • Request for applications from various towns for “Application Study”

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Campaign Workshop- First Two Dates Set- Fairfield County Fish and Game June 9th--- Guilford June 23rd.
  • May Food Drive - for nearly eight years, CCDL has collected and distributed food for those in need at our monthly meetings. Thank you to all of our members who generously donated canned goods and other non-perishable items to our January meeting.
  • 2018 State Elections - 2018 might be a pivotal year for gun rights in our state. It all comes down to CCDL members becoming engaged in helping pro 2A candidates hold and win seats. This is the most effective way any one member can protect their rights.
  • Letter Writing Campaign – all CCDL members are encouraged to write pro-gun letters to the editors of news organizations.
